Meet Megan

Megan

Megan’s job is to help Stollery teams practice so that when they have to perform in real-life, they are ready.

In her free time, Megan loves to get outdoors with her family! She’ll be out paddle boarding in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. It can be a bit chaotic when all four of her kids are out on the slopes, but she loves that she gets to share that adventure with them.

Let’s find out more about Megan:

What do you like most about your job?

I get to work with people from all over the Stollery, including Stollery families. Seeing family and staff leave a session feeling more confident is the best part of my job.

How long have you worked at the Stollery?

Twelve years.

Do you have a standout Stollery memory?

Being at the Stollery for 12 years has given me some pretty amazing memories. If I had to pick just one, it would be the time I ran into a mom of a patient I had helped take care of in the NICU, years after the child had been at our hospital. She shared with me how I had positively impacted their journey and that her son was doing well. Once sick children get better and go home, we don’t often get to hear their “happily ever after” story, so that was pretty special to me.

Do you have a personal connection to the Stollery?

I have four children and, at one time or another, they have all accessed care at the Stollery. I am so grateful to live so close to a world-class pediatric hospital. I had to bring my one son into the Emergency department when he was very little, and the team were amazing in helping him feel better and doing it in a way that was family-centred.

Are you a Foundation donor or volunteer?

Yes! I am a donor and a volunteer. Giving back to this community that supports children and families from all over Alberta (and further) is important to me because I see the amazing work the Stollery teams can do when they have the financial support they need.

Have donor funds directly impacted the area you work in?

They have! Without funds from the Foundation, our program would not be possible. From personnel to equipment support, the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation has made the work we do possible.

Do you have a favourite Stollery event?

This is hard to choose, I love Teddy Bear Fun Fest, but we also love Simply Supper’s Lemonade Stand Day. Lemonade Stand Day gives my children an opportunity to participate in giving back to the Stollery community, and who doesn’t love lemonade in the summer!

What is your favourite kid’s book?

The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak is a family favourite in our home. My children never get tired of hearing their mom read, “My best friend in the whole wide world is a hippo named Boo-Boo Butt.”

Do you have a favourite superhero?

I grew up loving comic books with X-Men being one of my favourites. Rogue, one of the female leads, always stood out for me. She was strong, persistent and some might argue one of the most powerful characters. It was cool to see a female lead embody those traits.

We know that professional athletes have to practice to be successful, and the same is true for teams at the Stollery. I help Stollery teams practice their jobs so that when they have to perform in real-life, they are ready.
