Meet Allison
Allison has been at the Stollery Children’s Hospital since 2010 as an orthoptist, treating kids with vision issues.
Allison has been an orthoptist at the Stollery since 2010 and specializes in the muscles of the eyes. Allison treats eye issues such as eye turns, poor vision and double vision at the Stollery Family Day Classic Ophthalmology Clinic.
In her spare time, Allison loves to read and is currently training for the Walt Disneyland marathon. She also loves to travel whenever she can.
Let’s get to know Allison a bit better:
What do you like most about your job?
When a patient has worked really hard to wear their glasses/patches and their vision is finally equal — they graduate from our clinic! Or when I help someone get rid of their double vision with a prism and they are so happy to finally be able to see better again.
Do you have a standout Stollery memory?
Working here for so long I have followed patients from infancy to the point where they are taller than me. You really get to know them and their families well. It’s so nice to see patients like that thriving and you realize the hard work is worth seeing them happy.
Have donor funds directly impacted the area you work in?
At the Stollery Family Day Classic Ophthalmology Clinic, there are many tools and instruments that I use every day that were funded by donors. I am so thankful that I can do my job better directly because of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and its donors
I love donating to the Foundation because I see every day how even a little bit of money can make a difference in the lives of the kids and families who come to the Hospital. From tools to toys every little bit helps to make an impact.
Do you have a favourite Stollery event?
My favourite event will always be the Stollery Family Day Classic. Because of that event, we were able to move into our current clinic.
Do you have a favourite Disney princess or superhero?
My favourite princess is Merida because she was brave and stood up for what she believed in. My favourite superhero is Captain America because his kind heart was what helped him become a better hero.
Thanks to your support, Stollerific staff like Allison are a making a life-changing difference for the kids and families who rely on the Stollery’s world-class care. You can continue to support our specialized care by donating today.
