Meet the Pediatric Diabetes Education Center team

PDEC_Staff

The Pediatric Diabetes Education Center (PDEC) team teaches kids and teens with diabetes – and their families, how to healthfully and safely manage diabetes.

Let’s get to know the team:

What do you like most about your job?

We like building a rapport with and supporting families through the multiple follow-up appointments they have during the year. We feel that in getting to know families, we can better support their health.

Do you have a standout Stollery memory?

We have had patients bring beautiful thank you cards on their final visit when they transition into adult clinics. We’ve also had patients come back to visit us. It is rewarding to see young people thrive and not let diabetes hold them back from achieving their goals and dreams.

Have donor funds directly impacted the area you work in?

With donations from generous donors and supporters, we’ve been able to increase the frequency of insulin pump training to monthly, making sure that more kids have access to this technology, while decreasing the length of time families wait to start on this therapy.

Do you have a favourite Hospital event?

Our team loves coming up with a team costume for Halloween. We make it special by having a potluck lunch and crafting costumes together. This year we were ice creams cones and last year we took the first-place prize as Trolls.

Thanks to the generosity of our Junior Lemon Squeezers, hosting lemonade stands, rallying their communities and raising funds in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation — for their support of the Pediatric Diabetes Education Center this year.

Thanks to supporters like you, Stollerific staff like the PDEC team are making a life-changing difference for the kids and families who rely on the Stollery’s world-class care. You can continue to support specialized programs at the Stollery by donating today.
