The Women and Children’s Health Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship Program funds postdoctoral candidates so they can continue their careers and training in children’s health research.

This year, there were two recipients of this award who will go on to further their research projects and take kids’ health to the next level.

  1. Muhammad Imran

Using precision medicine, data and patterns, Imran hopes to predict a child’s future cardiovascular health and risk factors.

“Additionally, our findings could lead to the development of targeted early interventions and support the development of diagnostic kits and innovative therapies. I hope my work helps to reduce cardiovascular diseases globally,” – Muhammad Imran.

  1. Shrimanti Ghosh

Upper limb injuries are one of the most common reasons a child requires medical care in Alberta and accounts for about one out of every five emergency room visits in Canada.

Shrimanti Ghosh hopes to shorten wait times and save costs by developing artificial intelligence tools that can identify arm injuries in ultrasounds.

“We expect this AI model to reduce wait times significantly, lead to faster identification of fractures, quicker decision-making, and more personalized patient care… ultimately, we hope to improve the overall health and well-being of children in Alberta and beyond.” – Shrimanti Ghosh.
