Highly regarded as a relationship builder, Karen brings with her a wealth of knowledge and more than 30 years of progressive development experience. With a career that spans both the corporate and charitable sectors, Karen has led multiple teams through organizational change and transformational campaigns at RBC, TELUS and NorQuest College. Karen has dedicated more than a decade to advancing kids’ health as the Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer and most recently as the Interim President and CEO.

“As I start my new role with the Foundation, I do so with a tremendous amount of pride and gratitude for the collective effort and generosity our community has displayed towards kids’ health during the first 23 years of the Foundation’s history,” says Karen Faulkner.

“Along with our Hospital partners, we’ve made a life-changing difference for countless families, and I look forward to leading the Foundation team as we work in collaboration with the Government of Alberta, patient families, volunteers and donors to make a new, purpose-built Stollery not only a priority but a reality.”

Karen grew up in communities across Alberta before landing in Edmonton to pursue degrees in Science and Commerce at the University of Alberta. Karen and her husband of 32 years, Mike, are proud parents of two adult children.

The Stollery Children’s Hospital is the most specialized children’s hospital in Western Canada and serves the largest geographical area of any children’s hospital in North America. Each year, the Stollery responds to more than 324,000 patient visits, including more than 54,000 Emergency department visits. Performing nearly 11,000 surgeries, the Stollery is the hub for pediatric heart surgery in the West and a national leader in solid organ transplantation. Serving kids from across four western provinces and three territories, nearly 30 per cent of patients come from outside the Edmonton region, the Stollery is a vital part of Canada’s health care system.
